Transcription Centre facilities
Swansea University Library has a dedicated room for visually impaired students equipped with networked Pentium PCs, a laser printer and SmartView Xtra colour CCTV systems. Zoomtext Xtra screen magnification software is loaded onto all the PCs in this room, and SUPERNOVA has been added for use on networked PCs in the library.
Visually impaired students at University of Wales Trinity St David and Swansea Metropolitan University also have access to this room and, in addition, the partner institutions have been able to acquire extra items of equipment for the use of their visually impaired students. These include DAISY digital talking book players (two per partner institution), a Smartview Extend machine (for use at Trinity St David) and three Optelec hand-held units for loan to students in each institution.
The Centre's best practice guidelines set out the procedures for the Centre to be able to deliver braille, electronic formats and recordings in time for classes or in advance of lectures. These guidelines, together with a handbook on how to provide accessible information for all. Download them here.
