Document Delivery

In order to encourage the inter-usability of the SWWHEP libraries' stock, the Virtual Academic Library project includes a document delivery service, which will allow users to request items from one library and have them delivered to another, or to request that physical items be posted to their home and electronic material e-mailed to them.

Swansea University already operated a Distance and Lifelong Learners At Swansea (DALLAS) service, providing postal delivery services for some students. This service will be incorporated into the SWWHEP project and expanded to cover Swansea Metropolitan University and University of Wales Trinity St David.

The first step of the implementation was to provide a physical delivery service between the three institutions, which was achieved in August 2008. A new, improved, service to handle requests is to be provided by the introduction of Relais ILL (Inter-Library Loans) software, which is due to be fully implemented by summer 2009.
