iFind Research service goes live
Library and Information Services at Swansea University recently activated a new service designed assist university staff and students to access a wide range of journal articles, conference papers, theses and other items. The new service provides a search engine which searches across a large number of web sites and databases to find academic and scholarly articles on a topic or subject. Quick access is also given to items using a reference from a bibliography or reading list.
Over the last 18 months, the iFind Research project has consulted a range of university staff and students to design a service which would provide added value to the research process in terms of saving time and money in the discovery and delivery of published scholarly works.
Andrew Brown, iFind Research project leader commented:
“It’s been a pleasure to see staff and students realise the benefits of the new service as we demonstrated it during the consultation process. Senior lecturers in the university using the new service have discovered journal articles associated with their research of which they had previously been unaware. I also remember one student calling over his friends to join him as we showed him the service for the first time. By involving customers throughout the design process we have created something of value, but it doesn’t stop there – we will continue to improve the service as we move into the 2010/2011 academic year by further consultation. We could not have provided this new service without SWWHEP funding”.
The iFind Research project team has worked in conjunction with Virtual Academic Library project strand of SWWHEP who have funded some of the software behind the new service.
The service caters for Swansea University Students and Staff only and can be accessed on SU Campus here: http://ifind.swan.ac.uk.
