Technical Information
Swansea University will be hosting Student records, Intranet facilities, E-learning and careers information for all three institutions. As part of the DR and BC plans these services will be co-located in two separate computer rooms in separate buildings on the campus at Swansea University. Both of these facilities have Generator, battery backup and dual air conditioning supplies in case of failure. Where possible either mirroring or hot standby hardware will be employed.
Two 8100 HP SAN infrastructures, located in different computer rooms, will be linked together at Swansea University to provide a resilient data infrastructure. Mission critical services will mirror data across the SANs enabling services to continue should one machine room be rendered inoperable.
Technologies deployed will be based upon VMware’s toolset and associated backup and restore principles. These will be tested for the varying platforms and database systems in use.
A new management system will be developed to oversee the main SAN infrastructure at SU and enable early fault recognition and diagnosis before problems arise.
