SWWHEP Careers Roadshow 2008

In November 2008, SWWHEP organised and ran the first ever South West Wales Careers Roadshow, a pilot project aimed at servicing the graduate recruitment needs of companies and students in the region. The roadshow kicked off in Swansea University on the 18th November, then visited Swansea Metropolitan University on the 19th, and finished off in Carmarthen on the 20th at Trinity College.

Over 80 organisations exhibited at the roadshow visiting Fulton House at Swansea University, the Townhill campus at Swansea Metropolitan University, and the Students Union at Trinity University College. From the top international graduate recruiters like PricewaterhouseCoopers and BAE Systems, to large more-local companies like the Welsh Assembly Government, Corus and Dwr Cymru. The roadshow saw the different sectors of the forces get involved throughout with the RAF, Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines all exhibiting. The fairs were also supported by GO Wales who promoted their jobs, placement and taster schemes. For a full list of recruiters for each fair please visit here: www.swansea.ac.uk/careers/Events/CareersRoadshow2008/ .

The success of the roadshow was measured by the attending students and graduates who totalled over total 2,000 over the three days. Students commented on how pleased they were that an event took place at each campus and expressed how impressed they were with the variety of exhibitors and the valuable information they were able to obtain.

Overall, SWWHEP have received very positive feedback from staff, students and exhibitors alike, highlighting the fact that the event was an excellent stage for South West Wales to promote its excellent level of graduates and a ideal format for helping companies develop more proactive approaches to recruitment in this region.
