Personalised Learning Environment (PLE)

PebblePad (PP) was introduced in Autumn 2008. (Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan in September 2008 and University of Wales Trinity Saint David in December 2008)

PP is a web based PLE/e-portfolio with students and staff being able to access it from within Blackboard or at the respective websites:

• Swansea University
• Swansea Metropolitan
University of Wales Trinity Saint David

Students can create an online portfolio of their artefacts which can include many types of file from MS Office, music, picture and video as well as uploading their own websites.
Personal Development Planning (PDP) and Employability are very much at the core of what PP is all about with many tools and online file storage
These include a CV builder, an Action Planner which has a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Threats and Opportunities) built in as well as an online PDP course for students to work through during their time at University.

Personal blogs and websites can easily be created in such a way that students can easily share selected files from their e-portfolio and present them as a website. PP is easy to edit with user friendly windows. The interface can be personalised to suit the individual needs and the student has complete control over who can see their work from keeping their work private, sharing with a peer, group or tutor within PP to sharing work externally. CVs created in PP can easily have a web address linked which can then be sent to employers as a supplement to an application form and/or traditional CV. The Action Planner can be used in a multitude of applications to support student learning needs, group work, planning projects etc.

After graduation the student’s e-portfolio can easily be exported or subscription continued at a small cost to PP.

Examples of use and help tutorials both written and video can be accessed from the PebblePad website and also from each institutions login page
