Trinity University College

Established in 1848, Trinity University College is the only Church College within the University of Wales. In February 2009, Trinity's University status was was approved by Her Majesty the Queen making it the UK's newest University. Vocationally focused degree programmes offered through the medium of English, Welsh or bilingually, a network of support services, and the opportunity to be a part of the wider community makes university life an enriching experience for students and staff at the College.

The University’s many partnerships and collaborative initiatives present opportunities for students and staff to engage with external agencies to broaden their experiences and skills. This is the added value of a small college that is active in developing links and has positioned itself at the centre of educational, economic and social planning in the region.

Collaboration with Carmarthenshire County Council, for example, has led to the development of the Cultural Enterprise Centre which will provide a rehearsal base for Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and units for new creative industries as well as established businesses. A Sports and Health Centre has recently opened on the campus for use by the University and the wider community. Future partnership will see the see the development of a health-related centre linking into the University’s academic programmes. Trinity is currently working with Leonard Cheshire, the UK's largest voluntary sector provider of support to disabled people, in the development of Centre for Independent Living. The Centre will be linked to bilingual training programmes offered by the School of Education and Social Inclusion at the College.

Collaboration with Swansea University and Swansea Institute of Higher Education and the Local Education Authorities – particularly Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire - in the development of the South West Wales School of Education, will provide stronger networks for the provision of initial teacher education and training as well as greater opportunities for continuing professional development. Participation in such schemes as Go Wales provide opportunities to engage with the business community giving students and graduates work experience that often leads to full-time employment.

The University works with communities across west Wales in the delivery of part-time and flexible programmes. It is committed to widening access to higher education and through a number of schemes is providing opportunities for adult learners across the region to participate in a range of courses include taster courses, certificates and foundation degrees in the workplace, as well as degree and masters’ programmes.

Partnerships with organisations in the USA, Japan, China and other EU countries mean that Trinity welcomes a growing international community to Carmarthen and provides opportunities for students to study in the USA and other parts of Europe as part of their degree studies.

These partnerships confirm Trinity’s role as the Community University in West Wales that makes a positive contribution to the well-being of communities in the region.
