Swansea University

Founded in 1920, Swansea is a vibrant, research-led university situated on the majestic sweep of Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Since its foundation, the University has been a scientific and technical institution closely linked to the great industries of South Wales, as well as a renowned centre for the arts, serving the region’s community.

Early distinctions in Geology, Physics, History, European Languages, and Engineering are now complemented by expertise in a wide range of subjects covering the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Health and Medicine, Business, Law, Engineering, Physical Sciences and the Environmental Sciences.

The University now has around 15,000 students and offers over 500 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate courses in a wide range of subject areas, from American Studies to Zoology, not to mention an extensive continuing education programme. Many courses and modules are available to be studied in the Welsh language.

Recent surveys and league tables have consistently placed Swansea among the top 20 Universities in the UK for teaching quality and student satisfaction. The results reflect the University's aim to deliver an outstanding student experience alongside teaching of the highest quality that produces graduates equipped for exceptional personal and professional achievement.

The University is increasingly recognised as a powerhouse for growth in the local economy and is playing a major role in establishing Swansea as a successful centre for collaboration between industry, commerce, and academia. The University is already working with more than 200 businesses – including some of the world’s leading multinational companies as well as many local organizations.

In turn, this has helped to enhance the employability of Swansea’s graduates, with 95% of graduates in full-time employment or further education within six months of graduating.
